Who Am I?

My name is Steve Thomas. As you can see, I'm a seasoned resident of Santa Barbara. I've lived in the Santa Barbara area for 37 years. After graduating from UCSB, I spent the last 25 years working for Raytheon and the former Santa Barbara Research Center. While there, I managed two major enterprise-wide systems, Enterprise Requirements Planning (ERP) and Product Data Management (PDM.) I am familiar with desktop computers using Win 9x, Win2000 and XP. I have some familiarity with Macintosh and Linux systems as well.

I can support you in a variety of ways. Click on the links at the left for an explanation of some of the things that I can help you with. As you can see from the references below, I can meet your computing support needs. The computer industry is becoming more and more specialized; no one can do everything. But  I will either get the job done myself or find an appropriate specialist.

"I am responsible for screening, training, and program supervision for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Santa Barbara County. I have known Steve for several years as he is a volunteer advocate for CASA, and has served a number of children. Steve has also assisted us by setting up our first office network, setting up our web presence by providing our web hosting service, and designing our web site. He provided our office with E-mail service for the first time and has supported our E-mail environment by adding and deleting addresses as needed. He has been very helpful in keeping our computers working, replacing components where necessary, and providing new computers for our office staff.

"I highly recommend Steve for whatever computing needs you may have. He works with you to determine what you need and provides a solution that fits your budget.

"My responsibilities keep me busy training new advocates and supervising office staff. I don't need the additional headache of knowing all about computers. I prefer to rely on Steve for that side of our operations."

- Katrina Carlson, Program Supervisor/ Advocate Trainer, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Santa Barbara County

"As a university professor, a great deal of my work is accomplished in my home office. Steve has been invaluable for my computing needs as he set up my cable modem and wired a home network, assists me with questions about software, adds and replaces components on my computer, setup a back-up system for all my data files, designed my web page, and is a constant resource for keeping me current with technological advances.

"My speciality is not in the computer industry. Steve helps me use this technology effectively so I can concentrate on my research rather than the computer."

- Dr. Joan Petersilia, Professor, Dept. of Criminology, Law & Society, UC Irvine
